Lamongan—On Monday, December 8, 2025, fifth-semester Biology students conducted a DNA Isolation and PCR practicum in the Genetics Laboratory, UINSA Surabaya. This practicum is an important component of the biotechnology course and provides students with hands-on experience in understanding the stages of DNA-based experiments.
The laboratory was lively from the morning. Students arrived eagerly, ready to follow every procedure, from equipment introductions and DNA isolation stages to the PCR process. During the practicum, students not only experienced hands-on experiments but also received theoretical explanations while practicing, making it much easier to grasp the concepts.
During this activity, students were accompanied by four lab assistants (asprak) who patiently and diligently guided each group. From ensuring the correct use of micropipettes and overseeing the DNA extraction process to assisting with PCR machine setup, everything was done in a supportive and engaging atmosphere.
The practicum was further enhanced by the presence of two lecturers, Mr. Tamam and Mrs. Rofi, who provided guidance and motivation from the beginning. Both of them monitored the lab and provided additional explanations, making the students' experience more comprehensive and enjoyable.
The students' enthusiasm was evident throughout the activity—from their curiosity upon seeing the isolation results to their joy upon successfully executing the PCR test. The day's lab was truly a learning experience, not only technical but also strengthening laboratory skills and teamwork.
