FSTP UMLA Conducts Benchmarking with the Faculty of Applied Science and Technology, UAD Yogyakarta

Yogyakarta, August 25, 2025 – The Faculty of Science and Food Technology (FSTP), Universitas Muhammadiyah Lamongan (UMLA), together with the Bachelor of Biology Program, carried out a benchmarking program with the Faculty of Applied Science and Technology (FAST), Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) Yogyakarta. The event took place on Monday, August 25, 2025, from 08.00 to 11.30 WIB at the FAST UAD meeting room.

This benchmarking activity aimed to strengthen academic governance, enhance quality assurance, and support the achievement of an “Excellent” accreditation status through knowledge-sharing and best practice exchange between the two institutions.

Key Focus Areas of Benchmarking

Several important aspects became the focus of the benchmarking, including:

a. Enhancing Quality Assurance System FSTP UMLA gained new insights into the implementation of Internal Quality Assurance System (SPMI) based on the PPEPP cycle (Establish, Implement, Evaluate, Control, Improve), thereby strengthening quality standards and mechanisms.

b. Strengthening Academic Governance The benchmarking enabled FSTP UMLA to adopt UAD’s academic governance model, particularly in curriculum planning, MBKM (Freedom to Learn–Independent Campus) implementation, and innovation in learning methods.

c. Improving Research and Publication Quality The program inspired strategies to enhance both the quality and quantity of research, reputable publications, and the management of a more structured research roadmap.

d. Optimizing Educational Facilities and Infrastructure FSTP UMLA received valuable references for managing laboratories, learning facilities, and the effective use of supporting technologies in academic activities.

e. Accelerating the Achievement of Excellent Accreditation The outcomes of benchmarking serve as a foundation for improving quality standards and development strategies, enabling FSTP UMLA to meet the accreditation criteria of LAMSAMA and achieve an “Excellent” rating.

Participants and Academic Leaders

The event was attended by leaders and academic staff from both institutions. From FAST UAD, the attendees included the Dean, Dr. Yudi Ari Adi, S.Si., M.Si., along with vice deans, the Quality Assurance Unit, study program heads, and heads of both learning and research laboratories.

From FSTP UMLA, the delegation was led by Dean Eko Handoyo, S.Kom., M.Kom., accompanied by the Head of Biology Study Program M. Ainul Mahbubillah, S.Si., M.Si., the Biology Quality Assurance Unit, Biology lecturers, as well as the Heads of the Computer Engineering and Physics undergraduate programs.

The Head of Biology Study Program at UAD, Nurul Suwartiningsih, S.Pd., M.Sc., also took part in the discussions and exchange of academic experiences.

Looking Ahead

Dean of FSTP UMLA, Eko Handoyo, S.Kom., M.Kom., emphasized that the program is a strategic step in building academic networks while enhancing institutional quality. “The outcomes of this benchmarking will serve as an important milestone in accelerating FSTP UMLA’s achievement of an Excellent accreditation,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Dean of FAST UAD, Dr. Yudi Ari Adi, S.Si., M.Si., welcomed the collaboration and expressed hope that the partnership between the two faculties will continue not only in academic matters but also in research and community engagement.
