Lamongan, October 15, 2026 — Ten fifth-grade students from SD Muhammadiyah 1 Turi (SD Musari) participated in an educational visit to the Biology Laboratory at the University of Muhammadiyah Lamongan (UMLA). This activity was part of their Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) curriculum, involving direct observation within a laboratory setting.
The session began with an opening and brief remarks from M. Ainul Mahbubillah, Head of the Bachelor’s Program in Biology, alongside the accompanying teachers. The students were then introduced to the UMLA Biology Laboratory, including the various equipment and facilities used for practical work.
Following the laboratory tour, the students visited a greenhouse to observe a plant cultivation environment. There, they collected samples of water hyacinth, along with some of the water from its habitat, to take back to the laboratory.
The collected samples were then examined collectively in the Biology Laboratory. Through this activity, the students gained hands-on learning experience by engaging with biological specimens and conducting simple observations of plants and their aquatic environment.
Throughout the introduction and observation process, the students received guidance and support. They had the opportunity to see firsthand how a laboratory serves as a facility for science education, allowing them to connect the material studied in school with real-world objects in their surroundings.
The visit concluded once all scheduled activities were completed. Through this initiative, UMLA supports the introduction of science at an early age, while fostering the students' curiosity and interest in learning about science—specifically in the field of Biology.
