Muhammadiyah University of Lamongan has once again achieved a milestone through innovative research by Putri Ayu Ika Setiyowati, a lecturer in the Faculty of Biology. The study, titled "Analysis of the Antioxidant Potential of Lotus (Nelumbo nucifera) Extract as an Innovative Treatment for Pathophysiology of the Male Reproductive System Due to Nanoplastic Exposure: An In-Vivo Study in Male Rats," is titled "The Antioxidant Potential of Lotus (Nelumbo nucifera) Extract as an Innovative Treatment for Pathophysiology of the Male Reproductive System Due to Nanoplastic Exposure: An In-Vivo Study in Male Rats."
The study focuses on exploring the benefits of lotus flower extract in mitigating the negative impacts of nanoplastic exposure on male reproductive health. Using an in-vivo study approach using male rats, the study aims to find antioxidant-based solutions to address the increasingly concerning pathophysiological disorders caused by microplastic particles.
This research project received funding from the 2024 Research Program Batch VIII, affirming Muhammadiyah University of Lamongan's full support for the development of science relevant to global health and environmental sustainability issues. Her research is expected to make significant contributions not only to biology but also to the development of environmentally friendly, nature-based health therapies. This achievement inspires other academics to continue working and innovating.
